Tim Bainey Jr. and the #00 Dream Machine Impressive Again
with Strong Run at Salem Speedway
Salem Speedway has always
been a favorite stop for Tim Jr. on the USAR ProCup Tour, and once again
that proved to be true as his Aaron’s Racing Team would put together a
strong run with the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine during the “Lucas Oil 200”
this weekend.
The #00 Aaron’s Racing Team
would qualify 9th for the event, run strong early, make a few
adjustments, and charge back into the top-10, running 8th with
just 33 laps to go when Tim Jr. was caught up in a spin by another car in
front of him – causing extensive damage to the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine and
dropping the team to a 19th place finish.
“It wasn’t the finish we
wanted, but it sure was a great race for the Aaron’s Team,” said Tim Jr. “We
had to adjust the car a little during the race, and the guys did a great job
in the pits. We were patient in the race tonight, things were really going
as we planned and we were going to get into the top-5 before it was over –
but then someone blew a tire right in front of us entering turn 1 and that
hurt our night.”
In qualifying, Tim Jr.
would take the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine around the famed Speedway at a
blistering time of 17.64 seconds, well under the old track record, and good
enough to land the team a 9th place starting position.
With that lap, Tim Jr. and
the team made it 7-out-of-8 when it comes to qualifying inside the Top-10 on
the USAR Series Premier High Banked / High Speed Tracks.
“I always said that I love
to come to these fast tracks,” said Tim Jr. “You just have to be really
smooth to get a good lap, I don’t know what it is about these places, but we
have it down.”
For the race, Tim Jr. and
the Aaron’s Team would stick to their plan of staying up near the front, but
more importantly out of trouble through the early stages.
“The car was a little loose
to start,” said Crew Chief Dan Bainey. “We had to bring Timmy down pit road
a few times to tighten it up so he could get comfortable enough to make some
passes. It looked like we had it pretty good the last 100 laps of the race,
its just too bad that had to happen in front of us, that close to the end of
the race.”
Tim Jr. had the #00 Aaron’s
Dream Machine back up to 8th and was working over the 7th
place car. As they entered turn 1, the car in front of them blew a tire, Tim
Jr. tried to miss the car and spun himself – he was then hit by another car
coming behind them. The damage from the accident was too much for the Dream
Machine to be competitive again and they would end the night 19th.
“It was a tough way to end
the night,” said Tim Jr. “We had another Top-10 right there, but that’s just
how it goes sometimes. There’s nothing you can do about it, so now we will
just turn our attention to Radford. We’ve been really strong there, so we’ll
see if we can’t put together another solid run next weekend.”
