What a Difference a Year Makes for Bainey and Butler

What a difference a year can make – and for teammates Tim Bainey Jr. and Brett Butler - It’s been quite a start to their first season together.

As they head into Radford this weekend for the USAR Hooter’s ProCup “K-Mart 250”, both will be viewed as solid contenders for the win Saturday Night.

At this time last year, Butler was fighting to stay inside the top 30 of the Championship Point Standings, this year he sits 16th.

His #99 VERVE Energy Drink Team started the season with No Owners Points, meaning No Provisionals – and they have solidly placed the #99 into the starting field at each event.

“We’ve ran really strong,” said Butler. “Our finishes haven’t even come close to showing how strong we have run, but even with that, we have still managed to solidly get ourselves inside the top-20 of the points.”

At this time last year Bainey sat 17th in the Championship Point Standings, this year his #00 Aaron’s Dream Team sits 9th – only 28 points out of 5th.

Although he had some great runs throughout last season, Bainey Jr. was looking at 0 top-10 finishes at this point last season - this season he is looking at 3 top-10’s in the last 4 races.

“It’s been great for us,” said Bainey Jr.”Brett and I work really well together, our crew guys are great, and it’s really turned out to be everything we hoped it would.”

The DRT Enterprises Team has been looking to add a second team for the last few seasons, this year the opportunity presented itself and they have made it work really well.

“We’ve been wanting to do a 2-car team for a few years, “said Bainey Jr. “It takes a lot of financial backing to do a deal at this level, a great team, and a lot of hard work.”

“At the beginning of the season we had a few sponsors step up and commit to doing some races for the second team. We talked it over with our team and they said lets go for it, we laid out a plan, and it’s come together in a great way.”

Bainey Jr. pilots the famous #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine, while Butler sports one of the newest sponsors in motorsports on his #99 Verve Energy Drink Car.

“After the first race we started working on the Verve deal, and now we have a great program going with 2 of the most widely recognized sponsors in the series,” Bainey Jr. finished. “We work really hard at this stuff, and it’s all coming together right now.”

Dan Bainey, Tim’s brother and Crew Chief had this to say.

“It’s been great all around. You get a lot more information from 2 teams. We have been able to try some things with one car, and not get too worried – because we can always go back to what the other is running and vice versa.”

“Timmy and Brett get a long great, and our crew guys feel the same way. They represent our sponsors well, and the fans love them… it’s a really great thing we have going right now.”

Butler’s Crew Chief Seth Miller thought the same.

“It’s really come together well. Brett and I communicate well with Tim and Dan, we even switch team’s once in a while just to keep the chemistry flowing. It’s all about the people you surround yourself with, and we have a very good situation going right now.”

Butler summed up the team’s thoughts in his final remarks. “It’s a great situation. We have really great crew guys, awesome sponsors, good equipment, and we are all on the same page.”

The K-Mart 250 takes place this Saturday Night at 7:00 pm in Radford, VA.
