Tim Bainey Jr. and the Aaron’s Dream Team Come Up 2 Laps Short of a Top-5 Finish at Jennerstown

Tim Bainey Jr. and #00 Aaron’s Dream Team continued on their blazing hot streak in the USAR Hooter’s ProCup Series with another stellar run Saturday Night at Jennerstown Speedway.

The Aaron’s Dream Team was running 5th with 2 laps to go when Tim Jr. radioed the crew that he lost fuel pressure, he coasted to a 16th place finish.

“That was tough – but our Aaron’s Dream Machine was a rocket tonight,” said Tim Jr. “We’ve been so good the last 3 or 4 races, and tonight we were 100% ‘on’ with the Dream Machine. This stuff is really getting to be fun!” He walked away with a smile.

After Qualifying the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine 6th for the “Hooter’s 250”, Tim Jr. would put on quite a show for his hometown Pennsylvania Fans. After making early stops for tires and fuel, Tim Jr. would break into the top-5 by lap 70 and take over the 3rd position before the halfway mark.

Tim Jr. would spend the next 100 laps on the bumper of the 2nd place running car of Derrick Kelley. He took the Aaron’s Dream Machine high and low trying to make the move into 2nd, but just couldn’t quite get a clean pass on Kelley.

“We were so good, but I just couldn’t get a clean run on the #21 (Kelley),” said Tim Jr. “It was tough to follow him that long while we watched Benny (Gordon) get away with the lead, but the guy was running second and I didn’t want to do something that would take him out – so we just decided to ride there and wait until we got inside 50 to go to race.”

Tim Jr. did just that as he looked to be on a rail with the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine. The top 3 pulled away from the pack with each restart, and he held a comfortable cushion on the rest of the field.

“We have these cars dialed in right now, “said Crew Chief Dan Bainey. “It was great to see Timmy in the top-5 all night long, if we could have just got around the #21 it would have been fun to see what we had for Benny – although it was pretty fun anyway,” he finished with a smile.

Tim Jr. and the Aaron’s Dream Team were well on their way to a top-5 finish. As the laps wound down, Tim Jr. started to work the #21 a little harder, but couldn’t quite make his way around him.

“We were faster than him,” said Tim Jr. “But you can’t drive through the guy, you have to be able to pass him. And I guess it’s a good problem to have – I mean we were trying to pass the 2nd place running car for almost 100 laps – so we were running pretty good,” he grinned.

As the laps wound down, Tim Jr. tried to get the 2nd place position. A late race restart would bunch the field together again, and after another attempt at passing the #21 Tim Jr. found himself being pressured. He would lose 2 positions and fall back to 5th, where he would run until the Dream Machine sputtered with just 2 laps to go, out of fuel.

He would coast back to pit road as the race ended, dropping the Aaron’s Dream Team to a 16th place finish for the night.

“I’m so proud of our Aaron’s Dream Team right now,” said Tim Jr. “This was probably our best run ever in the USAR Series tonight. It’s too bad we didn’t get the finish, but we ran in the top-5 all night… and when you come up 2 laps short on fuel – well there isn’t much you can do but smile and get ready for the next one.”

Tim Jr. and the Aaron’s Dream Team slipped to 11th place in the Championship Point Standings, but are still within reach of climbing back inside the top-10 with 2 more races to go in the regular season. A little side note – had the Dream Team finished where they were running with 2 laps to go, they’d be sitting 7th in the points.

You can watch the “Hooter’s 250” next Monday August 4th at 4:00pm on the Versus Network.
